Since July 7, 2023, I've worked one-on-one with over 200 people to help them grow their businesses through content. Origin Story
Let's go all the way back to 2007.
Youtube was a relatively unheard of website and I was in high school. With a $100 Flip Cam and free editing software, my buddies and I started making short, funny videos for fun and posting them to Youtube. I was the self-appointed director and editor. It was here that my passion for video was born.
But, I went on a detour.
I went to the University of Washington, graduated with a History degree, and commissioned into the US Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. For the next five years, I was sent all over the world as an Air Support Control Officer. In 2019, I left active duty at the rank of Captain.
I spent the next year traveling through Cambodia, Thailand, and Nepal (bad timing with COVID). Upon my return to the US, I bought a doggie daycare/grooming business with my wife. We grew that business by posting little videos to Instagram and Youtube and it was here that I learned about the power of organic social video to market a business.
We sold that business to move to Mexico City (my favorite city on Earth!) where my wife is now pursuing a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
When I first needed an income from abroad, I was working as a business broker - helping people buy and sell small businesses. I got clients by posting little educational videos to Youtube. But, I was having more fun making the videos than selling businesses so that lead to me offering freelance video editing.
I wasn't even making minimum wage doing that when one of my editing clients asked me to teach her how to use Descript for herself. It was July 7, 2023 when I did that first ever tutoring call and that's the day that Descript Mastery was born. Since then, I've done hundreds of tutoring calls and created the Descript Mastery course.
I love teaching and I love seeing the results people get once they start making excellent videos for their business.
